Book, Rejected by Publishers, Is Self-Published Then Signs With Howard Books
7/30/12

Grand Rapids, MI – Undaunted at his manuscript originally being rejected by several publishers, Grand Rapids, MI businessman Clare De Graaf decided to publish his book himself in 2011. To do that, he secured the editorial development, website design, social media marketing direction, and product sales and distribution help from international publishing strategy and services agency Somersault Group (http://somersau.lt). The result became hardcover and digital editions of The 10-Second Rule (http://The10SecondRule.com) that has now sold more than 17,000 copies.

Somersault’s (@smrsault) work goes beyond the creation of self-published books. As part of its objectives, Somersault seeks alliances with literary agencies to offer united assistance and added value to help authors establish their public platforms and publish their content. The first agency to partner with Somersault is Wolgemuth & Associates (W&A) of Orlando and Denver.

Through the work of W&A in representing De Graaf to publishers, a contract has been signed with Howard Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, to publish and internationally distribute The 10-Second Rule: Following Jesus Made Simple. It’s scheduled to be available from Howard Books February 5, 2013 (ISBN-13 9781476702773).

The 10-Second Rule encourages people to “just do the next thing you’re reasonably certain Jesus wants you to do,” and to make the decision within ten seconds of being prompted. A nationally known comedian, who has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Michael Jr. is a believer in the book. In November 2011, as he completed his performance at a fundraising event in Canada, Michael Jr. felt compelled to ask if someone in the audience would pay $4,000 for a $20 book in donation toward the cause. The dramatic results of his obedience can be seen on YouTube at http://youtu.be/TUvOOrTZVIA.

“My partnership with Somersault helped me hone my writing skills, sharpen the focus of my book, and understand the world of publishing and marketing far better than I could do on my own,” says De Graaf. “And Somersault’s introduction of me to W&A has opened further opportunities I’m eager to explore."

“We’re establishing a win-win-win collaborative model in the publishing world,” says John Topliff, Somersault general manager. “Working with the Wolgemuth and Associates team of literary agents—who include president and founder, Robert Wolgemuth, Erik Wolgemuth, and Andrew Wolgemuth—we’re able to discover and develop new authors, provide publishing counsel, and help authors maximize the impact of their message and expand their influence.”

“Our alliance with Somersault means we bring to publishers a strong foundation of research, editorial, branding, marketing, cover design, page layout, publicity, social media, and word of mouth services in our representation of authors,” says Robert Wolgemuth, W&A president. “We’re offering publishers the opportunity to enlist new authors with minimum risk and great potential.”

The affiliation between Somersault and W&A allows each to call on the other to employ their expertise in helping to launch authors in their writing careers and support them in managing their personal brand development and engaging key audiences with the life-changing message. Polishing and packaging the author’s content for professional presentation is another aspect of the alliance that is a service to publishers.
